Innovation Data Processing Announces S/390 Linux Rescuer

The Industry's First System Recovery Tool for S/390 Linux

Innovation Data Processing, a market leader in storage management products, has announced a powerful and unique addition to the FDR/UPSTREAM Storage Management Tool. FDR/UPSTREAM is the industry's first and only complete backup and restore solution with Disaster Recovery for S/390 Linux. The newest version of FDR/UPSTREAM 3.2.1 available in January, 2003 introduces the S/390 Linux Rescuer, a Stand Alone System Recovery facility for SuSE S/390 Linux systems.

FDR/UPSTREAM now has been enhanced to include in the file-level backup all file types in the system. This involved adding FIFOs and device files to complement UPSTREAM's existing support for all other UNIX file types (hard links, symbolic links). UPSTREAM will also now incorporate in the backup with no special setup or consideration, knowledge of file system demarcation points and some general information about each of these file systems. It's easy and simple to use since all of this information is incorporated transparently in the backup and does not negatively affect backup performance. A file specification /* is all that is required to backup the entire system with the system fully online and FDR/UPSTREAM will also take all the performance advantage of HiperSockets.

At disaster recovery time, the customer will boot the single-user disaster recovery facility from the operating system vendor. The user will then manually activate network communications and disk access if the operating system does not do this automatically. The user will then define and mount the disk devices.

Using communications support (ftp, nfs, etc.), the UPSTREAM software is copied to the system, installed on the RAM disk and run. An initial FDR/UPSTREAM panel is brought up, displaying file systems available for recovery, the user simply and easily can then start the restore of all of the files in the file system by hitting the start button, restoring everything including the file system, device drives and applications.

FDR/UPSTREAM is a complete storage management solution for corporate data distributed across a heterogeneous network. FDR/UPSTREAM provides enterprise-wide storage management for a variety of platforms including Novell, Windows, Linux, UNIX Servers and Workstations using the z/OS or OS/390 MVS mainframes as the backup server.

The S/390 Linux Rescuer disaster recovery facility complements FDR/UPSTREAM's extensive and comprehensive features such as backup/restore, file transfer, file migration, non-disruptive online database agents and disaster recovery vaulting with centrally administered profile policy management.

FDR/UPSTREAM's support for S/390 Linux including advanced UNIX file system specific features include hard links, symbolic links, owners, single file system support, support for Reiser file system as well as ext2, ext3, XFS and remote NFS attachments. UPSTREAM provides a variety of user interfaces including the "Director", an Explorer-like graphical management and administrative interface that can be run from virtually anywhere in the enterprise.

Innovation with this release once again demonstrates its superiority in product design and implementation. With a worldwide customer base and 30 years experience in backup, restore, hierarchical storage management and disaster recovery, Innovation is internationally recognized for non-disruptive backups and its inventiveness in this market segment.
